Reconciliation at Nedlands PS is about:

Building better relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community for the benefit of all Australians.

Enhancing understanding by presenting the facts and giving people an opportunity to broaden their knowledge – achieving it involves raising awareness of, and learning about, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.

Changing attitudes that are often based on myths and misunderstandings, and encouraging action – where everyone plays their part in building a better relationship between all Australians.

Embedding the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross curriculum priority of the Australian Curriculum across all learning areas where there is a natural fit.

Learning and respecting our local Aboriginal history in Nedlands, and valuing the place this history plays in our present community.

As part of the teaching and learning program, teachers integrate Aboriginal Perspectives across the Curriculum to broaden and deepen students’ and teachers’ understanding of Aboriginal cultures and ways of being. There is a focus on reconciliation, social justice and equality.

At Nedlands Primary School we use the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework to support staff to incorporate the Cultural Standards into our school leadership, planning, curriculum and teaching to make their practices more responsive to the needs of Aboriginal students.

The Framework is about creating a whole-school environment that supports Reconciliation, Aboriginal students and Aboriginal perspectives.

All staff use the framework as a reflective to tool to ensure that all of our school initiatives incorporate culturally responsive behaviours, attitudes and values into our everyday work.

Our Cultural Inclusion Team works together to embed the Nedlands PS Reconciliation Action Plan across our learning community.
